DC Cares 2020

Week after week in 2020, you've supported HBP families

We've seen how much our neighbors in D.C. care for vulnerable families! From the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, you called HBP to see how you could support our families and the agency. You provided PPE for residents at Perennial House and our new Muriel House, cleaning supplies, food, taxi rides, craft supplies, gift cards, sewing machines ... even online workshops for our young parents so they could learn to advocate for themselves.

In 2020, we've seen how much DC Cares for us. Your support has made an incredible difference in our young families!

  • At intake 59% of youth were  homeless or transient, yet at the end of the year 71% of all youth were in stable housing or in their own independent housing
  • 31 fathers are involved in co-parenting
  • Less than 1% (0.6%) HBP moms have had a repeat pregnancy
  • 11 case-managed parents graduated from high school or GED program
  • 3 case-managed families enrolled in college
  • 43 Life Empowerment program youth graduated from high school
  • 42 Life Empowerment Program youth are enrolled in college
  • 8 mothers have been breastfeeding their infants

Now at year end, we have three particular needs:

Each one of you is a credit to this city in your compassion and support. While “thank you” seems so simple to say, please know that the young mothers and families at Healthy Babies Project join me in extending our overwhelming gratitude to you. You saw a need in 2020 and you responded. We hope you'll do so again now at year end.
